Valser Quartzite

More than 250 million years under the Swiss Alps, Valser Quartzite is a very solid, compact and frost-resistant stone.

Petrographically, Vals Stone is also known as mica quartzite. It has a distinct fine-veined texture. The stone is very solid, compact and frost-resistant.

Vals Quartzite is very old, probably more than 250 million years and started life as a quartz rich sandstone which has more recently been through a process of metamorphosis. This transformation, combined with heat and pressure, has given the stone its characteristic strength and green/grey banding.

The stone can either be vein cut (against the grain) or fleuri cut (with the grain) and is suitable for both internal and external floor, wall and paving applications. The stone has been a preferred choice of top architects around the world including Peter Zumthor who designed the famous Therme Spa of Vals, built top to bottom in Vals Quartzite.

Finishes: Sawn faced, honed, split faced, sandblasted, polished.
Colours: Grey, grey with white veining, grey with green hue

Vals is a beautiful alpine valley in the heart of Switzerland. The quarry is a family owned business with a proud history and a strong empasis on environmental protection and visual impact management.
